Freedom Friday: What is human trafficking?

Justin Van Rheenen Freedom, KaleoMovement, Slavery 0 Comments

I started Kaleo Media for a couple reason:

  • – I want to help clergy, stay at home mom’s/dad’s, small businesses, large businesses, non-profits, or anyone else tell their story through social media and engage people around that story.
  • – I want to eradicate human trafficking, period. (I can’t make this period big enough)

Human trafficking is today’s version of slavery and its happening all around us. I don’t care what size town, city, state, or country you live in, human trafficking is happening under each and every one of our’s noses. The question is, what are you going to do about it? Kaleo Media is my “what I’m going to do about it!”

What exactly is human trafficking?

The United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime defines human trafficking as:

Article 3, paragraph (a) of the Protocol to Prevent, Suppress and Punish Trafficking in Persons defines Trafficking in Persons as the recruitment, transportation, transfer, harbouring or receipt of persons, by means of the threat or use of force or other forms of coercion, of abduction, of fraud, of deception, of the abuse of power or of a position of vulnerability or of the giving or receiving of payments or benefits to achieve the consent of a person having control over another person, for the purpose of exploitation. Exploitation shall include, at a minimum, the exploitation of the prostitution of others or other forms of sexual exploitation, forced labour or services, slavery or practices similar to slavery, servitude or the removal of organs.

United Nations

definition of Human Trafficking

The Polaris Project, says human trafficking is defined as:

As defined under U.S. federal law, victims of human trafficking include children involved in the sex trade, adults age 18 or over who are coerced or deceived into commercial sex acts, and anyone forced into different forms of “labor or services,” such as domestic workers held in a home, or farm-workers forced to labor against their will.

Kaleo’s Promise

We at Kaleo Media are passionate about eradicating human trafficking. But we know we can’t do that without your help. Every Friday we are going to post on our blog about trafficking around the world but for now we are going to focus on our home state Michigan. We are located in Traverse City, MI and we are going to talking, talking, talking about human trafficking.

Will you add your voice to the many voices starting to pop up around our state? Will you become an abolitionist with us? If so, tag your tweets, Facebook posts, and Instagram pictures with #TCMI #humantrafficking #kaleomovement starting with posting the 11 facts picture above! With many of us on board we can truly start offering freedom to those who are enslaved!
